fifth and first

So I found out last week that my paper with the Chinese is getting published. I'm second author on it too, so that's very cool. This is my fifth publication in total, but more importantly my FIRST at Brown.

Outstanding papers not published yet that should have been by now: 1 from USF and I SHOULD be primary author on that.

I have 2 definate papers and a third if I can make a case for it here at Brown. This is a good year for publishing. Not sure where I'll be in authorship on these two upcoming papers. Maybe Tanya and I will just swap out primary. I'm not greedy, but I want a primary authorship here.

Mexican Party

So at the end of the Pi party last week, I was told to organize the next event and soon.

Dio gave me the idea of us all cooking a big meal and then watching movies. I really liked this idea and it seemed to fly well. Over the course of the week though tings changed. The cooking of the meal is still on, but the movie trashed. This is a shame since I could expose people to awesome movies they normally wouldn't. Oh well, their loss. So mexican is the theme complete with margaritas.

Bilk experimetns part deux

So I actually did this last weekend, but I've had a crazy week. This time milk was added to two kinds of my homebrew.

First up- the wheat beer:
This gave Guinness and milk a run for it's money in the worst combo of beer and milk. I mean it looks like weak chocolate milk. Weak chocolate milk is the worst. It's not chocolate milk and it's not regular milk. It's like a nasty combo of both. This sums up the mixture of this beer and milk.

Next up my Irish Stout:

So you're probably thinking, well if Guinness is bad with milk, why would your stout be any different? Suprisingly, it was actually kinda tasty. My stout, being the best beer I make, can be a bit strong. The milk cuts the harshness so even novice beer drinkers can stomach it.

Pi Day

So I had never heard of this holiday before. Last week I got invited to a pi party, where they served homemade pie. It was fun. Hosted by Amanda and Leslie there were a mix of grad and med students. Graham, Dio, and I got courious about the old creepy attic so we exploring to see what previous tenants left behind. The things we found ranged from lame to super funny (especially when you combine cetain items together like the male rejuvinating pills and the old condem).

I got lots of pie leftovers since alot of the med students couldn't show up due to an outbreak of the stomach flu. Whatever, more pie for me.

Bilk experiment

Japan's latest crazy in beer: bilk. Bilk is a combination of milk and beer, since they ended up throwing out all this milk last year. I did a couple tests to see if this is any goood. Now they ferment the milk in the process, I just added milk to a couple beers I had in the house. It's 1 part milk 2 parts beer.

First up was Miller Lite. Notice the color of the mixer. It's like dirty milk. It really didn't taste that much different then it normally does. The carbination is less, but it isn't completely flat. Overall it didn't make much of a difference.

Next up is Guinness. Now the color change is noticable. The taste: not so good. It takes all the awesome flavor of Guinness away and leaves only bad taste in it's wake. This is NOT a great idea to do. Overall it was bad. Also the milk kinda curdled at the bottom of the glass.

More to come...maybe. Gonna try it with my Homebrew next.
